Does Themespotter feature every WordPress business theme available?
The main goal of this site is to make finding the best WordPress theme for your business as easy as possible, so it does not feature every theme. I’ve been on other WordPress ‘marketplaces’ and blogs that like to highlight the fact that they have something like 1,500+ themes. Having to dig through that many themes can be overwhelming and certainly not easy, especially when a good majority of those themes simply might be outdated or just not very good. My goal for this site is to focus on the top tier of WordPress themes (in terms of quality, originality and usability) from the top theme designers. I specifically look to feature themes from designers/developers that are focused on quality, have a reputation of providing great support, consistently release new themes and update their themes, and are ‘in it for the long-haul’ (compared to individuals dabbling in quickly building WordPress themes to try to make a quick buck – where you can risk the designer disappearing a few months down the road when you need technical support). That said, while this site focuses on the best WordPress themes for business, I also want to feature themes for a wide-variety of industries.
How are theme downloads and purchases handled?
While Themespotter is a WordPress business theme marketplace, theme downloads and credit card billing are not handled directly through this site. When you click the button to purchase themes, you will be directed to the website of the company that designed the theme (optimally, their checkout page). This allows the theme designers to communicate with you regarding any pre-sales questions you may have regarding specifics of individual themes (although, if you wish to contact me through the contact form, I would be happy to try to find the answers for you), as well as making sure they have your information to communicate with you about things like theme updates, tech support and any money-back guarantees related to their themes.
What are your Star Ratings based on?
The Star Ratings are meant to be an overall and and honest rating for each theme based on the design of the theme’s consumer-facing website, the WordPress admin backend options, the included features and ease-of-use. I don’t just assign a 4 or 5 star rating to virtually every theme just to try to get you to buy them (like some other WordPress theme marketplaces out there).
Rather than having multiple ratings categories (ie, features, value, etc.), I feel like just having 1 rating keeps it simple. The ratings are intended to help compare themes within specific categories. For example, a magazine theme with a 5-star rating is meant to indicate that that theme is among the best WordPress magazine themes available. That doesn’t necessarily mean that a WordPress Classified Ad theme with a 4-star rating has less features than a 5-star theme in a different category. I encourage you to add your own rating and feedback in the comments section on the bottom of each theme details page.
Can I suggest a great WordPress theme to be featured on Themespotter?
Absolutely. Are you a WordPress theme developer or just happened to spot a killer theme that I missed? I’d love to hear from you through the contact form. Please keep in mind that Themespotter is focused on the best WordPress business themes, but do also like to showcase the best WordPress blog themes.
What should I have for dinner tonight?
Tacos…obviously.
Questions about WordPress
What is WordPress?
WordPress is arguably the best open-source publishing platform on the planet. WordPress started as blogging software, but has become an ideal platform for business websites. The ability to customize WordPress websites through themes, plugins and widgets allows you to build awesome websites very inexpensively, without even needing to know anything about coding.
What is the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org
WordPress.com is free software geared toward personal blogs. Things like hosting, upgrades, spam protection, and security are handled for you. The downsides of WordPress.com is that you don’t have access to the source code to completely customize your size (if you want to), you can’t upload plugins, you can not use custom themes, and most importantly for businesses, you can not use WordPress.com to make money. WordPress.com does not allow you to do things like sell products or display advertisements. WordPress is perfect for people looking to blog about things like their vacation or baby, or even for businesses to supplement their existing website.
WordPress.org requires a bit more work handling things like finding a hosting company, installing plugins, running software updates and backing up your data, but the good news is that most of those type of things can be easily done with a single click of a button through the WordPress Dashboard.
WordPress.org software allows you to use custom themes, have your website customized (either by yourself or web designers), and best of all for businesses, you can use it to make money! WordPress.org also has an amazing community of people willing to help you out if you run into any issues along the way.
More detailed information can be found on the WordPress website.
Why buy a premium WordPress theme instead of a free theme?
There are some great free WordPress themes out there, but most of them are geared toward blogs, and are mostly focused on the color scheme and design layout. Premium WordPress themes help take WordPress way beyond blogging, and can function as robust CRM systems and much more. Premium themes also generally add great functionality to the WordPress admin background, letting you customize your website without having to know any code.
